Julie-Ann Adams BA, GMCIWM

Julie-Ann has more than 15 years experience in local government and the waste management sector. Prior to setting up her own consultancy in January 2008, she helped to instigate and run M Baker Recycling. This company [a specialist WEEE treatment facility] was specifically set up in 2001 and was established as one of the first fully licensed and compliant fridge processing plants in the UK in St Helens, Merseyside. She was responsible for all sales, marketing, licensing, TFS and compliance issues, as well as corporate social responsibility policies and goals. M Baker Recycling increased their treatment services in May 2005 to all other categories of WEEE, and in particular, the treatment of waste televisions and monitors and became one of the first approved WEEE authorised treatment facilities in 2007. During her seven years with this Company, she established working relationships with a number of WEEE stakeholders – Government, Environment Agency, local authorities, producer compliance schemes and other recycling facilities and technology providers.

Julie-Ann has assisted the Environment Agency and other organisations with training and understanding of WEEE treatment practices as well as given many presentations at conferences across the UK, EU and Far East. She has a degree in Local Government Policy and is a Graduate Member of the CIWM (Chartered Institute of Waste Management).

Along with twelve other industry members, Julie-Ann was appointed by Malcolm Wicks, the Minister for Energy, in November 2007 to join the new WEEE Advisory Board (WAB). A public body that was established to provide advice to Government on the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive and the UK WEEE Regulations.

Julie-Ann set up her current business as a specialist business consultancy providing services primarily to the environmental, waste management and recycling industry and is acknowledged as one of the leading international advisers on Producer Responsibility led regulations, CSR policy and implementation, treatment and recycling technology.
