Julie-Ann Adams BA, GMCIWM
Julie-Ann has more than 15 years experience in local government
and the waste management sector. Prior to setting up her own
consultancy in January 2008, she helped to instigate and run
M Baker Recycling. This company [a specialist WEEE treatment
facility] was specifically set up in 2001 and was established
as one of the first fully licensed and compliant fridge processing
plants in the UK in St Helens, Merseyside. She was responsible
for all sales, marketing, licensing, TFS and compliance issues,
as well as corporate social responsibility policies and goals.
M Baker Recycling increased their treatment services in May 2005
to all other categories of WEEE, and in particular, the treatment
of waste televisions and monitors and became one of the first
approved WEEE authorised treatment facilities in 2007. During
her seven years with this Company, she established working relationships
with a number of WEEE stakeholders – Government, Environment
Agency, local authorities, producer compliance schemes and other
recycling facilities and technology providers.
Julie-Ann has assisted the Environment Agency and other organisations
with training and understanding of WEEE treatment practices as
well as given many presentations at conferences across the UK,
EU and Far East. She has a degree in Local Government Policy
and is a Graduate Member of the CIWM (Chartered Institute of
Waste Management).
Along with twelve other industry members, Julie-Ann was appointed
by Malcolm Wicks, the Minister for Energy, in November 2007 to
join the new WEEE Advisory Board (WAB). A public body that was
established to provide advice to Government on the Waste Electrical
and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive and the UK WEEE Regulations.
Julie-Ann set up her current business as a specialist business
consultancy providing services primarily to the environmental,
waste management and recycling industry and is acknowledged as
one of the leading international advisers on Producer Responsibility
led regulations, CSR policy and implementation, treatment and
recycling technology.
